On Wednesday, Sesame Street announced their new character, Julia – a preschool girl with autism. The children’s program is launching a new initiative Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children in hopes to destigmatize autism and foster awareness. Julia will appear in digital storybook format, as noted by executive vice president of global impacts and philanthropy, Sherrie Westin. Westin stated this decision was made because families with autistic children tend to gravitate toward digital content. Read Julia’s Storybook.
The See Amazing in All Children program is available as an app and on desktop, and features resources for parents, digital storybooks, videos and songs. Read more about the initiative and “Julia” press-coverage here.
